Installing Storage Drivers When Fresh Installing Windows

Occasionally, when overhauling computers, the fresh install process is not straightforward, and you may not be able to find a hard drive to install Windows onto a partition. In such cases, you will need to download and install storage drivers in order for your hard drive to appear during the installation. Photos to come.

  1. Go to the Lenovo website and download the storage drivers for the specific Lenovo computer model you are working on.
  2. Insert the Media Creation Tool you are using into the USB port of the computer on which you are installing Windows.
  3. Create a folder within the “Drivers” folder of the Media Creation Tool and label it with the computer model you are working on.
  4. Extract the files from the downloaded storage driver and move them to the Media Creation Tool. Place them in the new folder that you named after the computer model.
  5. Hold down the Shift key and restart the computer, booting from the USB device.
  6. Install Windows, and when the hard drive screen appears, click on “Load/Install Drivers.”
  7. Navigate to the drivers folder on the Media Creation Tool and click on the new folder containing the newly extracted driver files. Install the files.
  8. Your hard drive should now appear and be ready for deleting and managing partitions for the Windows installation.
